Mexican New Year: My Mother's Traditional Rituals

I am originally from Mexico, I would like to tell you in an article how Mexican New Year's Eve was experienced.

Mexican New Year Rituals

Every Mexican New Year's Eve, my mother made us do several rituals, which for a long time I experienced more as an obligation than as a gift. I was more in a hurry to go party with my friends than spend time doing rituals ?.

Today I thank my mother for not giving up despite my apathy. Because it is thanks to her perseverance that today these rituals are part of me, and that I want to preserve them and pass them on to my daughters.

She had an endless list of rituals ✨, I'm sharing one of them with you that seems quite easy and comforting to me.

Flower bath, my mother's ritual

I call it "The Flower Bath". To do it, you have to choose a flower, my mother advised me roses? or lavender but after that it's up to each person to find their own, according to the symbolism of it, your possibilities and what the flower produces in you.

The rose

The rose symbolizes the timelessness of love, beauty, faith, wisdom, devotion and balance. I use it by asking for gentleness, kindness, and wisdom to move forward, to preserve my faith in life and in myself, to help me keep balance and confidence in my processes. As it is soft and beautiful but contains thorns, personally it reminds me of this feminine force, soft and powerful ? ❤️

Lavender

Lavender, by its name means "to wash" therefore excellent for "cleansing" in every sense of the word: purifying one's body, soul and mind. It also symbolizes tenderness, calm, and is associated with the element air and the planet Mercury. For my part, I use it by asking to be cleansed of all mental blockages, limits and false beliefs that could block or disrupt my path or my light, and by bringing me calm to live each of my processes, without wanting to accelerate them due to lack of patience.

"In the 18th century, it was found in the squares of simple monasteries, where other herbs were grown for use by apothecaries. Lavender was a remedy used against the plague. It was also burned to combat miasmas, because it was once thought that good smells kept evil away while bad smells attracted it. This idea is not completely fanciful..." Blog Lunantique

Cinnamon

The other ingredient, which intervenes in this ritual of the Mexican New Year, is a cinnamon stick, which is associated with the element of fire, the planet earth and the sun. It symbolizes the creative force, life, prosperity, the relationship with others and stimulates the energy of the sexual chakra (Swadhisthana), the one that gives us the strength to achieve our goals, to be in tune with our emotions, to create and to move forward with determination. I then ask it to bring me self-confidence, strength and courage to live the year to come.

The preparation

In a saucepan, add 1 liter of cold water + the petals of 7 roses (or 7 flowers of your choice) + a cinnamon stick. Heat until boiling, simmer for 5 minutes and turn off the heat. Let infuse for 10 minutes or until the mixture cools.

At the end of the shower, rinse yourself with the mixture while emitting your intentions, and what you wish this water to bring you. Take the bath between 3 and 7 consecutive days.

So !

I wish you an excellent end to this year 2019 and a year 2020 filled with light and beautiful energies ✨

See you soon Coatlicue
